We proudly present the 2026 Treasury Dragons Payment Fraud Index, sponsored by nsKnox. Now in its fourth year, the report examines how corporate treasury teams are responding to an increasingly sophisticated payment fraud landscape.
The findings reveal a persistent gap between awareness and effective protection. While 75% of respondents rate their organization’s fraud awareness as high or very high, 76% experienced at least one payment fraud incident during the previous 12 months—and 67% expect the risk to increase.
AI is making established fraud techniques faster, cheaper and more convincing. More than half of respondents experienced or suspected a deepfake-related fraud attempt, yet only 44% have formal policies addressing AI-related fraud.
Supplier and payment verification also remain critical vulnerabilities. Sensitive banking information is still frequently exchanged by email, supplier details are not always revalidated, and nearly half of respondents do not use a dedicated payment fraud prevention system.
